6 Ways to Enjoy Mantu

Versatile by Nature

More than a side dish.

Mantu is traditionally served one way — but it doesn't have to stay that way. From a cozy soup to a party platter, here are six ways to make Mor's Mantu the centerpiece of any meal.

Classic Afghan Style

The original way — dumplings as the base, tomato sauce on top, yogurt sauce poured over, finished with dried mint. This is how it's done at every Afghan table.

  1. 1.Steam dumplings for 10–12 minutes.
  2. 2.Arrange dumplings on a wide plate.
  3. 3.Pour tomato sauce over the dumplings.
  4. 4.Pour garlic yogurt sauce on top.
  5. 5.Finish with a pinch of dried mint.

Mantu Soup

Drop the dumplings into a warm, spiced broth for a hearty, comforting soup. Perfect on a cold day — the sauces double as a rich soup base.

  1. 1.Bring 3 cups of beef or chicken broth to a simmer.
  2. 2.Add a spoonful of the tomato sauce to the broth for depth.
  3. 3.Drop in the frozen dumplings and simmer for 12–14 minutes.
  4. 4.Ladle into bowls and top with a dollop of yogurt sauce.
  5. 5.Garnish with fresh cilantro and cracked black pepper.
